What Is Your Footprint?

What Is Your Footprint?

December 04, 2019

Your footprint is a way of showing your carbon emissions, compared to other people and other countries. It’s your impression on the planet.

The WWF goes on further to describe your carbon footprint as including:

• ‘Food’ covers diet, food waste and buying habits.
• ‘Home’ covers energy type and usage in the house and the presence of energy-saving measures.
• ‘Travel’ covers personal and public transport usage for leisure and work, and flights.
• ‘Stuff’ covers the purchases of consumable items.

The average footprint for a UK resident is 13.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) annually - but yours may be higher or lower depending on the way you live.

The excellent 'How Bad Are Bananas? The Carbon Footprint of Everything' by Mike Berners-Lee provides lots of valuable (and surprising) insights into the emissions of every-day things...

Slow cooking is cooking in a way that reflects the slow living mindset: it is cooking in a way that is mindful of the planet and sustainability. It is a practise that connects us with ourselves, our family, our local area, and the natural world around us. It is creating something from scratch and viewing it as a hobby rather than as a repetitive, time-consuming task.
