We're planting trees!!!

We're planting trees!!!

November 06, 2020

Who doesn’t love trees?

They’re beautiful to look at, they provide home and shelter for all sorts of wonderful creatures, they suck carbon emissions out of the atmosphere (this is called sequestration) on a daily basis.

And you can hug them. Go on, have a go. You’ll feel much better we promise.

Unfortunately trees are susceptible to damage and destruction. Some of this is natural, but the biggest threat to forests and woodland all over the world is us.

We are cutting down trees at a rate of 15 BILLION A YEAR.

In 2019, we lost the equivalent of a football pitch of rainforest EVERY 6 SECONDS.

Terra Neutra’s mission to ‘Create A Carbon Positive World’ and to do that we need to protect the forests and woodlands that already exist such as our Cardamom Rainforest Conservation project.

But we also need to plant more trees and so we are delighted to announce that Terra Neutra has become an EcoPartner of Graine de Vie.

Graine de Vie is an NGO (non-governmental organisation), founded in Belgium in 2009. Since 2009 Graine de Vie has initiated reforestation projects in Madagascar, Togo & Benin and planted over 25 million trees.

This has resulted in a whopping 100,000 tonnes of CO2 sequestered each year.

To put that into perspective, the average UK resident’s carbon footprint is around 8 tonnes. So GdV’s trees are balancing around 12,500 people per year.

That’s a fantastic achievement but when you consider that there are around 69,000,000 people in the UK alone - well, we need to plant a lot more! And that’s where you come in 🙂.

We’ve lots of tree-planting options to our product catalogue. You can plant anywhere from 20 to 1,000.(!). One tree makes a difference - and at 23p / tree, we hope that’s something everyone will feel that they can afford.

We’re going to start the tree-planting ball rolling NOW by planting our 1,000 ‘Earth Day’ trees (you can watch the video here).

With your help that 1,000 can grow to 100,000 and then to 1,000,000.

To start planting, follow the button below to our tree-planting packages and choose how many you'd like to plant.

We will be helping Graine de Vie plant trees in Madagascar, one of the most deforested countries in the world.

Madagascar rainforest

2% of Madagascar’s forest area is destroyed every year but it is still the 2nd largest primary rainforest outside of Amazonia. It contains vast reforestation territory and is one of few countries on our planet where the rate of rainfall still enables large-scale reforestation projects.

And critically, trees planted in Madagascar have a carbon absorption capacity 10 to 15 times greater than those planted in highly developed regions of the globe.

To date, Graine de Vie has created 132 tree nurseries in 16 of the 22 regions of Madagascar and in 8 schools. They have also initiated 9 projects restoring mangrove trees and 11 projects protecting and restoring the national parks of Madagascar.

Graine de Vie’s projects support the UN Sustainable Development Goals, specifically’;

Graine de Vie members work with local communities to plant, develop and monitor each of their reforestation projects. Each planting site has a nursery site which is looked after by people from local villages, who are also employed as tree planters thereby providing employment and helping improve the lives of the people living in the reforestation areas.

It's Volunteers Week

June 09, 2021

This week I was surprised to see myself staring out from a bus shelter advert. I was surprised because they were in a hurry and forgot to ask me first! Anyway, the reason I was there is because I am an environmental champion for the London Borough of Hounslow.

Our Sustainability

May 24, 2021

Being sustainable does not have to mean completely changing our life. It does not mean that we must live a completely zero waste life, never buy new, and go vegan. If we can do these things then that is amazing. But often, we just simply aren’t able to do everything.

Eating Sustainably: Recipes & Slow Cooking

May 07, 2021

Slow cooking is cooking in a way that reflects the slow living mindset: it is cooking in a way that is mindful of the planet and sustainability. It is a practise that connects us with ourselves, our family, our local area, and the natural world around us. It is creating something from scratch and viewing it as a hobby rather than as a repetitive, time-consuming task.
